I do not know that I know Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)!

Published November 13, 2015 by RAFrants

After Exercise 9- Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Sir Jason taught us how to use or code using the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)!

Honestly, before this exercise, I had no idea what CSS is but what shocked me was that I have been using CSS since I was 12 years old! No, no, no I am not a genius!

To elaborate further, I love playing online community games back then, it all started with my addiction to MILLSBERRY in 2007 then to NEOPETS from 2007-2010 to Pokemon Deluge to AdventureQuest to Marapets from 2008-2014 because I got banned for using multiple accounts ( I ashamed of what I did! ).

It was Marapets that taught me to use CSS but I kind of cheated because I do it with the help of online generators; the one I have been using is MaraHTML. In Marapets, there is a thing called CLUB. I became a club owner before that was why I created a layout for my club in order to attract members of course.

Attached below is an example of a club layout: (Photo not mine)

Back to the CSS exercise, actually I had an exam in a minor subject and a musical reduction in HUM 2 before my IT1 Lab class, so I was already exhausted. I am embarrassed to say this but I learnt only few things that day ( I am also sleep-deprived that time thanks to HUM 2) so I was really wishing the class to end soon!

So we had this exercise wherein we have to include our schedule, I just want to laugh at what I have done. This exercise is the most embarrassing exercise I have performed/answered in my IT1 Lab life, I do not think that I have even gotten a half-score for it because I am not even half-way in completing my schedule! I am just so embarrassed!

You can ask me to do 10 club layouts but never ever ask me to do even one schedule! I quit! Hahahah I hate schedules!

Marapets has been my number one priority until 2014– the year I got banned. Actually, it happened on October 28, 2014 11PM PHT. I logged in my main account which is actually my older sister’s account (teamvibe01) because my first account (MaraNetwork) was banned in 2010 for unknown reasons! It has really pissed me off because I did nothing wrong, I even message the admins but they ignored me. My love for Marapets was outstanding that I begged my sister to give me her account. I made the account very rich that I became a member of an elite club wherein only people with high amount of money, have completed some goals, and have own limited edition pets can enter! I love Marapets that I have gotten addicted with it like how guys have gotten addicted to DoTA! Yeap, I play the boring game for atleast 12 hours a day including weekdays! I am already okay with what happened because with it, I became focused with my studies!

Hope you liked my blog! Thank you for reading!

Sharing files in a much more convenient way: DOCUMENT COLLABORATION!

Published November 12, 2015 by RAFrants

Technology has really amazed me.

Last week, our professor taught us the meaning of Cloud Computing and how to share files in a much easier way and that is with Google Drive.

Google has really improved, I can still remember hating Google for its slow server when I was much younger– until my 4th year of High school I had been using Yahoo as my main server. Google has amazed me with its collaboration with Facebook, YouTube, DropBox, and many more!
So back to what I have been saying, Sir taught us what Cloud computing is and how to use Google Drive.

Cloud Computing is a process which uses a network of servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage and process data rather than in local computer. (Obrero, 2015)

In simple terms, your storage is online! This is advantageous to us students because there will be times where we will need to format our computer because it has been infected with infectious malware (Woohoo I learned something from the lecture!). If ever, like what happened to Sir’s friend, you only saved your file (especially thesis!) on your computer and it has been infected with virus, there is a big chance that you will no longer open the file and have all your hard work GONE! So if you save your file online, you will not only save the memory capacity of the computer or save yourself from losing your hard work, you will also save your computer from having malware! Ayan magbabaroque XD english na ulit ako in 3…2…1. ).

So how did we use Google Drive?

Of course we first had to log in using our eUP accounts and after that he taught us a very amazing technique for a much easier research. I regret not taking IT1 last year, ENG 2 would have been much easier with the techniques Sir taught us.

There is a SEARCH BOX while using Microsoft Word and you can search what you want, put image on your file, and lastly use APA Citation! During ENG2 days, the citation took me hours to finish! I did not study proper citation in high school to tell you.

So yeah after the discussion, Sir asked us to create two documents: one for excel and one for MsWord!

We created a story and it was damn funny.

It was about Drake’s friend and a banana. Actually I cannot understand the story because it is full of advertisements! We put Ariel’s 7.50 commercial and Kris Aquino’s famous lines so I really do not understand what happened.

I am going to give you an excerpt from our story:

It is titled: “The Magical Misadventures of Drake’s Friend and his Banana Because Popoy did not Give Basha the  Balat ng Chicken Mcdo *hart hart*”

One day, a man in a trenchcoat, Timberland boots with fur trimmings, and a black fedora hat was walking down the grocery aisle. He spotted some fresh bananas and smiled with eyes brimming with happiness because it reminded him of Drake, a friend who loves the color yellow (isn’t it green?). He was startled when his phone rang because he knew when the hotline bling played, it could only mean one thing.

Sorry if my blog is hard to read I mean vague, ambiguous, lacking, just whatever you call it, my mind is also not in the right state hahaha, beh I had four exams last week!

HTML, Hell yeah!

Published November 7, 2015 by RAFrants

I have studied HTML using NotePad in high school before so this week’s exercise was easy for me, I re-learn what I have learnt before! I actually enjoyed it so much because I miss this! While Sir was teaching, I can’t help but smile at the memories of my high school life.

After grueling years I mean weeks of hard exercises, finally something lifted up my tired spirit! And it was HTML!

I enjoyed it so much that I tried having at least 100 lines with my code but I was short in time so I only achieved more or less 80 lines.

Here is my exercise: My Resume (but I removed some information to protect me and my family!)

I hope you learned something from this blog! Yes you can borrow this code!

I know that I do not update my blog,  it is because I kept on forgetting my password!
I think I have reset my password for at least five times now! I am not overreacting but it is true!

Python! I mean Phyton!

Published November 7, 2015 by RAFrants

So with this exercise, we applied what we learned last meeting, the Pseudocodes and Flowchart!

I have always been amazed with how humans think and what humans have created! Computer programs amazed me the most of course!  This week we were taught how to use Phyton and I had a fun time learning it!

You know, I have wondered why my code was not working, and it was because I kept on writing PYTHON the snake instead of PHYTON! Actually this program impressed me so much because I did not know that this was what Ruth, SYSTEMONE has been using. We were given a quiz wherein we have to create a computing program like SystemONE. Remember that I told you last post that I hate Pseudocodes and Flowchart? Well guess what?!

I still hate them. Carlo and I were paired up for the quiz and we have entered and changed the code many times! We have created a program that can compute but it computes the wrong data! I have to say that I am quite happy with the result because I have guessed  what to do and we were near creating S1!

This week has been stressful for me because exams started on bombarding me!

PSEUDOCODES and FLOWCHART!

Published November 7, 2015 by RAFrants

Hahahahah I do not know what to say! I know I have not updated my posts for a long time and the reason why is that I did not know we are required to create a blog post for every exercise, I thought we can only create a blog post the time Sir asked us to. Good thing that I have created a draft of Pseudocodes and Flowchart before!

So what can I say with Pseudocodes and Flowchart?

Oh my gosh, I really hate math and diagrams. I am a person who do not excel in topics that I hate, no matter how much I study, nothing will happen to me! It sucks!

Just an example

Actually we had an exercise of Pseudocode and Flowchart in the lecture class, oh my gosh, I helped my groupmates not by answering but only by writing their answers. I feel ashamed for myself because I am older than most of them! I thought I have understood the lesson– I studied it I am serious!– but we were given a quiz in Lab, oh gosh, my answers are shit.

I cannot believe how stupid I have become. PSEUDOCODE is easy! Why cannot I get the answers correctly? I remember studying it for 20 minutes a day for seven days! I have even wished that Sir has given us more examples because I do not trust the internet hahaha.

The week we studied this was my birthday week, I cannot believe that I have spent thousands to treat my friends but I feel happy.

Hell Yeah! I can fix my COMPUTER!

I enjoyed this week’s exercise so much!

FINALLY! I KNOW HOW TO FIX THE COMPUTER!

Years ago, I have read this blog (I can no longer find it) about a big family wherein the children at certain age (I think it’s 14) were given disassembled computers by the parents. They give their children disassembled things so that they value the things around them and know how they work. At age 18, they are given broken car for him/her to repair. The day I read that blog was the day I vowed to myself to disassemble and assemble cheap things I bought and received (and safe looking).

I enrolled to this course thinking that I will only learn how to code, it never crossed my mind that I will learn how to assemble the system unit. I am so happy about it. I was so engrossed with what my instructor was teaching that I have so many questions in my mind that I do not want to ask out loud for I was afraid to be labelled ‘stupid’. I was and still am amazed to know that there is a battery clock inside the system unit! I am still amazed that PC Cases actually differ, it just never crossed my mind.

Did you know that there is such thing as ‘Benchmarking’ in computers?

The reason why I ask you this is because it is very important in buying computers.

Benchmarking is the act of running computer programs in order to assess the performance of an object. Unclear? Here’s how Sir Jason Obrero, our instructor, explained it:

SO WHAT? (AS APPLIED TO ISP’S)

If your CPU packaging ISP tells you that your CPU Internet connection has this speed,

and according to your benchmark http://speedtest.net that it is below that

speed, I think you did not get what your money’s worth.

I also learned about the Graphics Processor! I have always thought that Apple (A5X) computers are the best because of their display. I love the vibrant colors, little did I know that it is because of Apple’s retina! I never thought that NVIDIA would be the best Graphics Processor because I saw its logo on my mother’s laptop. I thought NVIDIA is for professional work not gaming!

I was amazed with everything but what amazed me the most was the “Liquid Cooling System” for PCs. I am a 9Gag user, I kept on seeing “Gamer’s porn” which are customized system unit. I thought those tubes are light not liquid! I was so amazed.

Here are examples of gamer’s porn”

I was not me the past weeks. I was so down due to school stuff but last week’s activity of assembling and knowing the parts of the system unit cheered me up so much. The reason why I did not update for two weeks (I guess) was I forgot my password for wordpress and my UP account! I still cannot retrieve my account for the latter.

We were actually given time to update our blog in the laboratory, I did not update mine. I forgot my password for WordPress, when I was to retrieve it using my mail, when I logged in, it asked for the code it sent to my old and lost cellphone number. Yeah, imagine my despair.

I was down but someone lifted me up.

Yes, I am in love.

Boolean Algebra: AWESOME!

Published September 6, 2015 by RAFrants

I enjoyed last week’s discussion very much.

Well, I actually enjoyed my Tuesday last week because I had no HUM 2! Hooray!

Don’t get me wrong, I love HUM 2 but I am not in the mood to do crafts. Hey, I have hard subjects this semester ( I am looking glaring at you, Veterinary Botany!) and I don’t want HUM 2 to ruin me.

I immediately went to my dormitory after knowing that we have no classes and studied the Number Systems and Binary Arithmetic for I felt that we will be having quiz that day– I was not wrong but our instructor moved the quiz to next week because he forgot to inform us that there will be a quiz. So, he discussed Boolean Algebra.

I immediately fell in love with Boolean Algebra because I diligently studied the Truth Table for 12 hours for the second examination in Philo 1 when I was a New Freshman. I was so focused with the lesson, then Sir (our instructor) drew the Logic Gates!  Something immediately flicked on my mind so I quickly turned my head to Pat Odrada to check whether or not we have the same thing on our minds, disappointed, I turned my head to the computer then I noticed Carlo Alburo giggling! We have the same thing on our minds!

Credits: hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu

I mean, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO LOOK LIKE THAT? WHY?!

Hey, I can suppress my laughter but someone is laughing beside me! Laughter is contagious huh! I think Carlo and I were laughing for two minutes. We then stopped, then, Sir discussed X nand Y wherein if both X and Y are 1, XY (X nand Y) is 0. I have already calmed myself, then Sir drew the structure and he mentioned “Cherry on top”! Carlo and I immediately broke into laughter. To make it more embarrassing, Carlo and I are seated in the front center so we are very noticeable, I actually wonder what Sir thought of us. (Sir! How were Carlo and I during that time? 🙂 )

After a few minutes, our instructor then discussed the Logic Functions.

Truth Table is a pre-requisite of Logic Functions. 1.) Gather all rows when the output is = 1; 2.) Use the ‘not’ form if zero, use as normal otherwise; 3.) Connect all terms using ‘or’.

OMG! PROVING!

Credits: giphy–the incredibles

I hated “Proving” in high school. I actually paid my way to pass Geometry while I barely passed Trigonometry. To clarify ‘paid my way’, my classmate was a representative of our section, in order for her to move to the next round, she must accumulate more money than the other participants. So during quizzes, our teacher will say ‘plus 10 if you donate 10 pesos while plus 20 if you donate 20 or more’, of course I donated 20 pesos twice for the two quizzes we had and I passed Geometry!

Then, STAT 1 happened. I actually enjoyed Proving. I realized Proving was actually easy that I have learned to love it. During the IT 1 exercise, I was shocked with myself because I got the question on number 1 on my first try. I was so happy!  For number 2, I had a hard time but I think I got it, then Sir came back inside to tell us that he has given us the wrong data. I want to try to answer it but I had a hard time doing the De Morgan’s of the last number and after many tries, I think I got the correct answer– I actually had hard time drawing the structure because that time was the first time I studied Boolean Algebra.

I enjoyed my week, how about you?

Understanding Binary Numbers

Published August 31, 2015 by RAFrants

Remember when I told you that Number System is easy?

I now want to eat my words! Oh my gosh, last week, we had to interpret binary numbers! By the way, I came to a conclusion that I am not an Alien (see my post–Yikes! I am an Alien) because I do not really understand computers.

To tell you the truth, I had a hard time last week. I think it started with HUM 2– the class before IT 1. Maybe it was because HUM 2 drained my energy so much that I had hoped that there was no class in IT 1 unfortunately, there was. I tried so hard to focus on the lesson but I was so tired. I somehow regret enrolling early.

Back to the topic, so our instructor discussed the binary arithmetic and I found the lesson very hard. During the discussion, I believed that I got the lesson– well, I did get the discussion of SMR and Two’s complement but One’s complement fucked me up so much. One’s complement confused me so much that Two’s complement also became a confusion.

During the exercise, guess what? Carlo and I were the last partners to have passed the paper! We both did our everything to find the exact number but ours all had an overflow fortunately we got a passing mark!

Due to my desperation with the exercise, I studied the lesson last Thursday for 3 hours! I still did not get the One’s complement and with this, I went online and looked for answers. And I found them.

I was shocked to know that I understood 1’s complement even before I went online. I should have not doubted myself!

Self five Renee!

Sorry I kept it short, last week killed me. And it seems like the next weeks will also kill me.

Yikes, I am an Alien!

Among my family, I have always been the Alien.

Alien can mean many things:

1.) Foreigner;

2.) A lover of foreign products;

3.) A person who speaks and write many languages or;

4.) A person who talks to the computer.

As I have mentioned before, I became (and still am) addicted to Asian dramas, as a result, I learned how to write and speak their languages. I can read and write Hanja (Japanese) and Hangul (Korean) characters while I can understand basic Mandarin, Cantonese, and Thai. So, whenever I am in feud with my siblings, I would write down my thoughts in Hangul for I am more fluent with this language and read them later on. I have to admit that I always feel well after reading my thoughts in a language that only I (among the family) can understand.

I believe that I am not an alien despite checking two of the list I mentioned but because the university wants the non-Computer Science students to die, we must learn to converse with the computer. KILL me now!

On Tuesday, August 18, 2015, I learned how to communicate with computers using the number system. I have always despised the complication of computer programs even though I have always fixed the errors of our home personal computers and have always been the person in charge of photo editing (Photoshop) and video directing and editing (Sony Vegas, After Effects, CyberLink, and Nero).

I really despise the complication of computer programs. I hate using my brain whenever I am not in the mood. Can you imagine my despair after learning that the College of Veterinary Medicine requires its students to take Information Technology Literacy (IT 1)? I fear this subject so much.

Fortunately (and unexpectedly), I enjoyed our exercise about the Number Systems for it has Basic Mathematics in it which I have always loved. Actually, during the discussion of our lesson, I cannot wait for what will the instructor say next. I was so engrossed with the lesson that I forgot to take down notes! So, I will elaborate what happened to me after the discussion– during the exercise.

I was confident that I will ace and finish the exercise quickly for I know that even though I did not write a read-worthy notes, I listened carefully to the instructor. I was wrong, very wrong. Conversion is actually easy but what confused me the most is the conversion of Decimal to  Binary, Octal, or Hexadecimal. I would often forget the right way to write the number. For whole numbers, I must get the listed remainders upward while for fractional numbers, I must get the listed remainders downward. What I kept on doing was getting the listed remainders for whole numbers downward! So, on my paper, I had many erasures that I have to rewrite everything on another paper, THRICE! The good news is I got a perfect score but the bad news is I forgot to answer the bonus point which is actually still okay.

After the exercise, I shared (or should I boasted?) my experience to my family. They were all amazed with what happened to me that my mom told me to shift to Computer Science. I may have learned the number systems but I still do not like computers, they are too complicated for my liking but guess what? I am now an alien.

that’s what they told me.
